I was faking it…

one woman’s search for orgasm

Female Orgasmic Disorder

The good news: I’m not a freak!

Apparently, I’m not the only woman out there who has never experienced an orgasm.

The bad news: this is a much big bigger problem than I realized.

In The Case of the Female Orgasm, Elisabeth Lloyd points to studies which show that about 5 – 10 % of women never achieve orgasm. There are so many of us, in fact, that there is a medical condition describing our plight, called Female Orgasmic Disorder (FOD).

According to one source, the primary causes of FOD are psychological ones—low confidence, guilt, trauma, inner conflict, etc—which makes me worry about the state of women today.

Why are we so messed up that we can’t ‘get it up’?

And if I’m one of the sufferers—does that mean I can take a medical leave from my job in order to ‘recover’? I might be tempted to try it except for the awkward conversation it would entail: I don’t think uttering the word clitoris or masturbation to my boss would be worth the time off.

  1. This is one of the reasons I got hooked on studying sex. I don’t think people realize how complicated sexual matters can be… physical or psychological…

And yeah… I wouldn’t even attempt talking to your boss about that LOL.
